Coffee of the week #21-15

The fall has been good to us, but there is more than enough time to enjoy a cup of coffee inside now as the day light time saving made the afternoons a bit darker. This past weekend we went to Stockholm and we never leave emptyhanded from there. Drop Coffee Roasters have roasted this week´s coffee for us and it was released just 6 days ago so you are amongst the first ones to taste it.

Approximately one year ago we had a coffee from the same project, Motherland Farmers, but then from the neighbouring village and roasted by Jacu. This is a project that was started in 2011 by a man called Fred Kasigwa together with a group of Norwegians. Fred inherited a farm in the Nyamagabe district, but soon found out that the farmers in the area lacked the skill and financing to initiate coffee production. Therefore he started a washing station for the close to 1000 farmers in the area and himself. The area was hit hard during the genocide in the early 90’s and the washing station has been a positive contribution for the unification thereafter, also increasing living standards in the area. Not only being a great social project, they have a strong focus on sustainable farming and use “home made” mulch as fertilizer for the coffee trees. And of course, they produce great coffee!

This week´s coffee is washed and the variety is local bourbons. We find it to have a rather full mouthfeel with some acidity and hints of cocoa. Recommend you to try it both on V60 and Aeropress.

Like always, we send out another box of coffee to the ones of you that just cant get enough!
